 Intro:

Federal government has made a decision to shutdown Utility Stores across the Pakistan country in 2weeks time, after subsidies were already removed on items, 11,000+ employees are uncertain on their future.

 Effect on employees:

More than 11,000 employees are worried as this decision to shut down will leave them unemployed. Out of these, 6,000 are permanent staff while the remaining are on contract or daily wages. The employees are scared that they might lose their jobs.

 Closure Process:

Utility Stores administration has two weeks to settle all transactions with different companies. This process will include ending all business dealings and preparing for the closure process.

Implications of Closing Utility Stores: The closure of Utility Stores could have several implications:

Economic Impact: Many employees will suffer a loss of their job. This will cause a loss of income for them and more unemployment.

Market Dynamics: With subsidies removed and stores closed, prices may increase for necessities, especially for low-income families.

On the positive side, government savings: Ending subsidies will decrease expenditure and would give the government a chance to cut back on operational costs needed to run these stores.

 Conclusion:

The decision made by the federal government on closing Utility Stores was a sign that the shadow of an era of a service from the British colonial times has now come to an end, which provided subsidized essential supplies to the public. The reason behind this decision is that the government of Pakistan wants to save some money from the national budget. Although it is a good initiative, it might not be very helpful for the employees of Utility Stores Corporation who would now be jobless, and consumers who can no longer buy essential supplies at reasonable prices. This decision would only have a positive impact on the economy and society if the government opened a larger number of low-cost shops for manual labourers and the poor. This is something that will be clear over the course of the coming weeks.
