Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Highlights Palestine’s Struggle at the United Nations General Assembly

In his speech during the fourth day of the 79th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly pleaded for the rights of Palestinian people. The speech began with the recitation from the Holy Quran, which set the tone for the grave and serious issues discussed.

Shehbaz Sharif’s Plea for Palestine

Prayers, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in his address, was needed by Gaza on account of a humanitarian crisis precipitated by war of genocide. “What was critical, he said, -children and the rest of innocents being buried alive, burnt-remained starkly visible, as the world kept awake in its deafening silence.

Condemning alone is not enough; there should be an immediate bloodshed stop,” he stressed. Sharif also underscored the necessity of urgent recognition from the international community: Palestine as a full-fledged member state of the United Nations, with East Jerusalem as its capital. But aside from this, he underlined that only a two-state solution can end the endless suffering of Palestinian people.

The Call for Immediate UN Membership for Palestine

He called for immediate permanent membership for Palestine in the United Nations. Mr Netanyahu asked that if the world continues with indecisive gestures, the Palestinian people are going to continue to suffer. “The world cannot again stand idly by as innocent people lose their lives daily in Gaza,” he implored, saying there must be a peaceful solution to this protracted war.

Lebanon and Kashmir: More Aggression in the Region

Sharif then turned to the situation in the region, commenting on the prevailing instability and warning Israel of its growing aggression toward Lebanon, which might spill into a wider war throughout the Middle East. He also underlined the systematic repression that is underway in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, stating that there are gross violations of human rights by the Indian military.

Kashmir: Struggle for Self-Determination

Sharif emphasized the firm stance of Pakistan on Kashmir and asked for the implementation of United Nations resolutions to let the people of Kashmir have their right of self-determination. He held that the Indian government was looking to change the demography of the region by converting the Muslim-majority into a minority. Sharif referred to the illegal actions of India in 2019 when it had unilaterally abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. “Despite all these oppressions from India, the youth in Kashmir are moving forward under the banner of Burhan Wani, and Pakistan will continue to show the same response if India tries to enter Pak-occupied Kashmir,” he said with a determination to resist Indian aggression.

Climate Change and Economic Reforms

He also spoke on climate change, pointing out that despite being one of the most vulnerable countries, Pakistan makes only 1% contribution towards global emissions. And he spoke for immediate reforms in the global financial system so that it does a better job to grapple with the economic as well as environmental problems emerging in developing countries. Sharif mentioned improving economic indicators of Pakistan and noted that through effective policies, the rate of inflation had been reduced.

Terrorism: A Global Challenge

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif criticized the existing threat of terrorism, assuming the threat still prevails from terrorist groups supporting those operating from Afghan soil and enjoying aid from abroad, most of whom, as he observed, come on the list. He used an example to cite the interim Afghan government while at the same time urging them to do something against groups like banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and Majid Brigade.

He further proceeded to pay his tributes to the Pakistani soldier and citizen who have lost their lives in a fight against terrorism and vowed at all costs to eliminate this menace from the face of the earth. And then ended by noting that Pakistan has continued its commitment to interaction with the world in ridding it off all forms of terrorism.

Walkout During Israeli PM’s Speech

In what could be termed a symbolic protest, when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took stage to address the gathering immediately after speech by Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan delegation along with others staged a walkout. This act certainly made it evident how stern Pakistan was against Israel’s activities in Palestine and its full support to the people of Palestine.

Conclusion

This impassioned plea for justice and peace by the prime minister at the UNGA call well justifies. He is speaking not only on behalf of Palestine and Kashmir but for all nations depressed and subjugated, fighting for their rights. His message must have been clear: the world must stand up now to put an end to this killing, protect the weak, and uphold justice and equality.
