Punjab Revision of Salaries of Public Representatives Bill 2024 has increased the monthly salary of provincial ministers from Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 960,000. In contrast to their prior salary of Rs. 76,000, MPAs would now receive Rs. 400,000. Additionally, the speaker’s pay has grown dramatically, rising from Rs. 125,000 to Rs. 950,000.

Reactions to the decision have been conflicting. Critics contend that a rise of this magnitude is unwarranted, particularly in these difficult economic times. Some have expressed concerns about the bill’s validity and the use of public monies for such large compensation increases.

However, Government have supported the action, saying it will give lawmakers financial stability. And allow them to better concentrate on their responsibilities.

According to supporters, increase in wages guarantees that public officials receive just compensation for their labor and reflects their expanding duties. However, view the decision as a contentious move that calls into question the priorities for tackling the public’s larger problems.
