Iran-Europe Nuclear Deal: Talks Back on Track

Iran-Europe Nuclear Deal: Talks Back on Track
Iran has reopened its diplomatic doors to revive the Iran-Europe nuclear deal. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed his readiness to visit key European capitals—Paris, Berlin, and London—for talks.
This renewed effort comes after recent progress in backchannel negotiations with the United States in Muscat and Rome. Iran is now reaching out to its European counterparts, hoping to rebuild trust and move the stalled nuclear deal forward.

Iran-Europe Nuclear Deal: Tehran Reaches Out to Europe
The Iran-Europe nuclear deal, originally signed in 2015, placed limits on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief. However, the agreement collapsed in 2018 after the United States withdrew.
Now, Tehran aims to engage again with the original signatories—Germany, France, and Britain. “Following consultations in Moscow and Beijing, I’m ready to take the first step,” Araghchi posted on X. He added that he was open to talks on nuclear matters and other mutual interests.
Diplomatic Push Follows Asian Talks
Before focusing on Europe, Araghchi held meetings in China and Russia. On Wednesday, he met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. A few days earlier, he had visited Moscow to discuss nuclear cooperation with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
He praised the support from China and Russia but noted that relations with the E3 (France, Germany, and Britain) had cooled. Still, he signaled hope, saying, “The ball is now in the E3’s court.”
Mixed Signals from Europe
France responded cautiously to Iran’s invitation. French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Christophe Lemoine stated that Paris would observe whether Araghchi’s outreach translates into real action. He confirmed France remains open to discussions on nuclear issues.
This cautious optimism may lead to renewed dialogue, but it depends on how the situation unfolds in the coming weeks.
With Iran actively seeking to revive the Iran-Europe nuclear deal, the coming weeks are crucial. Diplomacy may succeed where pressure has failed. By turning to Europe again, Iran signals its willingness to rejoin the global conversation—if the E3 respond in kind.
This renewed effort could redefine the future of nuclear negotiations in the region and beyond.
