Indian Airstrikes in Pakistan on Civilian Areas

The airstrikes caused significant loss of life and damage across various regions of Pakistan. In the Ahmedpur East area of Bahawalpur, 13 people were martyred, including two young girls, seven women, and four men. Additionally, 37 people were injured, including nine women and 28 men. Another attack near Muzaffarabad targeted Bilal Mosque, resulting in three deaths and injuries to two children—a girl and a boy.

In Kotli, the Abbas Mosque was struck, leading to the martyrdom of two teenagers—a 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy. A woman and her daughter also sustained injuries during the same attack. While the airstrikes left no casualties in Sialkot or Shakargarh, a dispensary in Shakargarh was damaged.

Indian Airstrikes in Pakistan:Pakistan’s Retaliatory Military Response

Pakistan’s military confirmed that in response to these unprovoked airstrikes, they downed five Indian fighter jets and one combat drone. The downed jets included three Rafale jets, a MiG-29, a SU-series aircraft, and an Israeli-made Heron combat drone. The downing took place in various locations such as Bhatinda, Jammu, Akhnoor, Srinagar, and Avantipur.

DG ISPR Lt Gen Chaudhry emphasized that the Pakistan Air Force engaged these aircraft only after they attacked Pakistani territory. The military’s measured response demonstrated restraint, despite the capability to target more than ten aircraft. The response was purely in self-defense, and Pakistan did not violate Indian airspace.

Targeting of Water Infrastructure and Aviation Safety

In a particularly alarming move, India also targeted the Nauseri Dam, which is part of the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower project. This action was condemned by Pakistan as a dangerous escalation. The military warned of serious implications regarding international law, particularly violations of humanitarian conventions.

The Indian strikes also endangered civilian aviation, as 57 international flights were passing through Pakistani airspace at the time. The DG ISPR highlighted the recklessness of the operation, as it risked the safety of countless passengers.

Pakistan’s Sovereignty and Military Strategy

Despite the provocations, Pakistan has maintained a defensive stance. The military spokesperson emphasized that while Pakistan possesses the right to respond as it chooses, it will do so at a time and place deemed necessary. Pakistan remains committed to defending its sovereignty and will respond firmly to any future acts of aggression.

The Indian airstrikes have raised significant concerns not only about the loss of life but also about the targeting of civilian infrastructure and international airspace. Pakistan has reiterated its resolve to protect its territorial integrity and ensure the safety of its citizens.
