Gaza hunger crisis as starvation claims 29 lives

Gaza hunger crisis is intensifying as starvation claims the lives of 29 children and older individuals, the Palestinian health minister confirmed on Thursday. These deaths occurred in recent days, and thousands more are currently at high risk due to the ongoing humanitarian emergency.
Hunger crisis in Gaza worsens amid limited aid access
After an 11-week blockade, Israel has allowed some food aid trucks into Gaza. However, officials stress that this is a fraction of what is needed. Palestinian Health Minister Majed Abu Ramadan told reporters, “In the last couple of days we lost 29 children,” later clarifying that older people were also included in the total.

U.N. aid chief Martin Griffiths previously warned that 14,000 babies could die without immediate assistance. When asked about this estimate, Abu Ramadan responded, “The number 14,000 is very realistic—maybe even underestimating (the scale).” This reinforces the scale of the crisis unfolding in Gaza.
Hunger crisis linked to severe blockade impacts
The blockade began in March. Israel claimed Hamas was diverting supplies for its fighters, which Hamas denied. The consequence has been widespread starvation. A global hunger monitor reported that about 500,000 people in Gaza now face the threat of famine.
Abu Ramadan said Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure has collapsed. Only seven or eight hospitals out of 36 remain partially functional. More than 90% of medical supplies are unavailable. This has further worsened the humanitarian conditions.
He stated, “Very few shipments went inside Gaza—90-100 truck loads, mostly to the south and mid zones.” When asked whether medical aid was among them, he said, “As far as I know, it’s only flour for bakeries.”
The Gaza hunger crisis highlights a severe and rapidly worsening emergency. Without sustained humanitarian corridors, deaths from starvation and disease may rise sharply.
The Gaza hunger crisis demands urgent international attention. A brief easing of the blockade is not enough. The loss of 29 lives is a tragic warning. If humanitarian access does not expand immediately, thousands of preventable deaths may follow. Medical and food supplies must reach Gaza on a sustained basis to address this unfolding disaster.
