ICC Acknowledges Pitch Concerns in New York: What Went Wrong?

In New York, the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium has flung cricket boards at the forefront of T20 World Cup drama. The surface of the game itself won’t inspire wild celebrations, though.

The Pitch Predicament:

  1. Low Scores: Sri Lanka and Ireland were unable to get many runs. Sri Lanka only scored 77 before being bowled out by South Africa, and Ireland made just 96 against India. 2.Double-fast Surfaces: Against which a ball could sometimes rise when it had no business doing so, and sometimes scoot along when only an exclusively flatter surface could have proposed such a trial. 3.Rogue Bounce: India’s captain Rohit Sharma, left, and Ireland’s Harry Tector take knocks on the body from uneven bounce.

The ICC’s Response:

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recognised the problem. Cricket’s global regulatory body has noted that:

‘The pitches so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as evenly as we and everyone else present would have liked. ‘The world-class grounds team is working hard to rectify this, and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches.
