Iran Nuclear Talks Face Deadlock Over Enrichment Demands

Iran nuclear talks face major disagreement Negotiations over Iran nuclear talks may face a dead end if the US demands Tehran eliminate all uranium enrichment. Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Majid Takhtravanchi, told state media that insisting on zero enrichment will block any progress. He emphasized that uranium enrichment is a national achievement and Iran will not retreat from it.

Iran nuclear talks meet US resistance

US special envoy Steve Witkoff restated the American position on Sunday, demanding Iran agree to a full stop of enrichment in any future agreement. The US considers enrichment a possible step toward nuclear weapons development. Iran maintains that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful energy production.

President Trump, during his Gulf visit last week, claimed a new deal was near. However, he urged Iran to act quickly to end the long-standing conflict. Still, the Iranian government criticized Washington’s public remarks, saying they differ from what’s said privately in talks.

Nuclear talks stall amid distrust

Despite conflicting American statements, Iran continues to participate in discussions. Foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei expressed frustration over mixed messaging from Washington. Meanwhile, a fifth round of discussions is likely to occur in Rome this weekend, though confirmation is pending.

During Trump’s first term, he pulled the US out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, calling it biased toward Iran. He reinstated sanctions, prompting Tehran to escalate enrichment activities in response. Iran has since refused to surrender its nuclear progress, calling it a vital sovereign right.

The upcoming talks in Rome will test both sides’ willingness to compromise. Without mutual trust and realistic expectations, lasting peace remains uncertain. Iran continues to stand firm on its enrichment rights, viewing them as essential to its national identity and progress. On the other hand, the US remains focused on non-proliferation and regional stability. Unless both nations find a middle ground that respects sovereignty while addressing global concerns, diplomatic efforts may keep stalling without yielding meaningful results.
