Local hero Netflix star Humayun Saeed is one of the few Pakistani actors with a global presence. Best known internationally for his role as Dr Hasnat in Season 5 of The Crown, he recently opened up about carrying the weight of national representation. In an interview on YouTube’s Filme Shilmy, Humayun shared that the experience was intense but deeply rewarding.

He revealed that the responsibility of portraying a Pakistani character on a global platform made him work even harder. “Representation is so important whenever we go outside our country,” he said. “That character was important, and I gave it my all.”

Despite the intense pressure, Humayun praised the work culture on The Crown. “There was pressure, but I’m glad that the people were very good,” he said. “They knew I had come from another country and was working in another language.”

He admired their punctuality, commitment, and discipline. “I saw that everything was happening on time. Everyone was focused. Everyone’s priority was to finish the work each day,” he shared. Humayun subtly hinted that Pakistani productions could learn from this efficiency, though he noted, “Of course, we have that here too, but maybe we make some mistakes.”

Local hero Netflix star Humayun Saeed is now promoting his upcoming romantic comedy Love Guru, alongside co-star Mahira Khan. He admitted some people advised against the project because of its title. “There was a film before with the same name that didn’t do well,” he laughed. “But our film is good!”

Humayun believes quality speaks louder than names. “I made Punjab Nahi Jaungi and people mocked the title. But when the film became a hit, they said the name was catchy,” he said.

He also spoke about the acting challenge in Love Guru, where viewers know a secret the characters don’t. “I needed to show he’s lying without letting the other characters know. Nadeem Baig helped me with timing,” he explained.

Mahira Khan, his co-star in Love Guru, shared her approach to the role. Known for meaningful performances, she admitted this role was lighter but still meaningful. “She is a girl of today. A feminist. She is always on the right side of things,” Mahira said.

She helped shape her character’s voice. “I told Nadeem, ‘She wouldn’t say this about another girl.’ And he agreed. We changed it,” she added.

Looking back, Mahira reflected on how her choices have evolved. “Earlier, I chose only serious roles. Now, I just go with what attracts me,” she said. She believes Love Guru lets her bring a new side of herself to the screen—fun, breezy, and real.

The audience will soon find out if her easy-breezy charm strikes the right chord. Until then, Love Guru remains one of the most anticipated Eid releases this year.
