In an Instagram post shared on Sunday, Türkan Atay recounted her experience working with Maria B. She explained that earlier this year, she shot a reel for the brand in Istanbul. The agreement, as per Türkan, was to receive a specific payment for each outfit she featured in the video. “For shooting in Istanbul, the cost is broken down based on location, videography, and video editing,” Türkan explained. “I gave them a price per outfit, and they agreed. I have all the messages to prove it.”

However, when it was time for payment, Türkan claimed the brand did not pay the agreed-upon amount. She reached out to clarify the situation. “I told them, ‘This isn’t what we agreed on. We agreed on a ‘per outfit’ payment,’ and the messages clearly confirm that,” she said. In response, Maria B allegedly informed her that they pay international influencers on a ‘per reel’ basis instead, which led to a misunderstanding.

Standing Up for Self-Respect:

Türkan emphasized that her decision to speak out wasn’t out of financial desperation but for the sake of self-respect. “I’ve been discussing this with them for three months now,” she said. “The amount is not even significant for them. Just give me my due payment, and I’ll share it with those who truly deserve it. And I’ll never work with you again.”

In a follow-up video, she posted screenshots of her conversation with the brand’s representatives. Türkan noted that despite her polite communication, the brand disregarded her concerns. “It’s not about the money. It’s about treating the people you work with with respect,” she stressed.

Maria B’s Response

Maria B responded via their official Instagram account, addressing the controversy. The brand took pride in its transparent partnerships with influencers, saying, “We have successfully collaborated with hundreds of influencers and content creators over the years, ensuring fair compensation and mutual respect.” They further added, “We are known for our excellent payment practices and have never withheld payments or gone back on our commitments.”

The statement continued, clarifying that the issue was a “regrettable misunderstanding” and emphasized their commitment to resolving it. “A meeting was scheduled to resolve the matter, but the influencer chose to create a defaming reel instead of accepting the resolution,” the brand stated. They concluded by reaffirming their dedication to supporting the creative community and fostering respectful collaborations.
