Poultry Vendors Strike: Sellers Reject Government Rates

Poultry Vendors Strike: Sellers Reject Government Rates

The Poultry Vendors Strike has been announced in response to rising tensions over government-imposed chicken prices. Vendors argue that they cannot sustain their businesses under the current pricing model. They claim that poultry farms are overcharging them while local authorities impose heavy fines. As a result, poultry shops across the city will remain closed until their demands are met.

Poultry Farms Overcharging

Sindh Poultry and Retailers Association President, Rao Mohammad Afzal, highlighted that poultry farms are not following the official rates. According to him, farms are supplying live chickens at Rs490 per kg instead of the government-approved Rs400 per kg. This significant price difference has become one of the main reasons behind the Poultry Vendors Strike.

Financial Burden on Poultry Vendors

Vendors are also struggling with high purchase prices for chicken meat. Currently, they pay Rs780 per kg but are expected to sell it at the government rate of Rs640 per kg. This pricing gap leads to major financial losses for retailers. Due to this increasing burden, the Strike has gained momentum, with sellers refusing to operate at unfair rates.

Unfair Fines Imposed on Poultry Vendors

Poultry vendors claim that local authorities are unfairly targeting them instead of addressing the real issue. They are being fined up to Rs100,000 for not following the government rates. Meanwhile, poultry farms are allegedly stockpiling chickens to create artificial shortages, further driving up prices. As frustration grows, more sellers are joining the Poultry Vendors Strike to demand justice.

Poultry Shops to Remain Closed Until Demands Are Met

As a result of these issues, poultry vendors have decided to keep their shops closed until their demands are met. The Poultry Vendors Strike will continue until poultry farms agree to follow official pricing and ensure adequate supply. Vendors insist they cannot operate under these conditions without suffering severe financial losses.

Impact of Poultry Vendors Strike on Consumers

The Poultry Vendors Strike is expected to impact consumers as well. With vendors shutting down their businesses, chicken shortages may lead to higher market prices. Customers may struggle to find affordable poultry products until a resolution is reached. Authorities must act quickly to resolve the conflict and stabilize the market.
