Developed by Huaneng Mengdong, a subsidiary of the state-owned Huaneng Group,however, these AI-integrated trucks represent the biggest single deployment of autonomous mining vehicles worldwide. Company chairman Li Shuxue described the launch as a significant step for the mining industry. “This fleet blends 5G-A communication, AI, cloud computing, battery swapping, and precision mapping,” Li said. The result is a powerful combination of safety, speed, and smart operation.

AI-Powered Trucks Boost Safety and Productivity

The trucks load and unload material without human input. They also perform well in harsh weather, making them ideal for Inner Mongolia’s tough climate. Moreover, Li claimed the driverless fleet improves transport efficiency by up to 20% compared to traditional crewed vehicles.

Other contributors to the project include the Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group and Beijing University of Science and Technology. These partners worked together to ensure the technology was not only advanced but reliable in real-world mining conditions.

China’s Push for Mining Automation

Moreover, China is rapidly expanding automation in mining. According to the China National Coal Association, more than 5,000 smart trucks will be in use by the end of 2025. This number may double to 10,000 by 2026.
